Yuma Man Receives MIWD Windows for New Home After Devastating Fire

Tony Giannopolous of Yuma, AZ is rebuilding thanks to the efforts of the Yuma Southwest Contractors Association, Foxworth-Galbraith Lumber Company, and MI Windows and Doors.

In the early morning hours on December 9th, 2012, Tony Giannopolous woke to an electrical fire in his Arizona home. He escaped unharmed, but the home was a complete loss. Without homeowners insurance, Giannopolous was faced with having to rebuild from his pocket.

Giannopolous is a very well-known and well-liked member of the Yuma community. He works part time at the local Sam’s Club where he has become known for the smiley faces he doodles on customers receipts. His coworkers took the lead as the community rallied to raise funds, furnishings, clothing, services and more to help him get back on his feet. Despite the generosity, he was still far behind what was required to rebuild his home.

Giannopolous’ situation and the money raised caught the attention of the local media and eventually Habitat for Humanity. Habitat, with the help of the Yuma Contractors Association, was able to provide the remaining building products and begin the process of rebuilding the home.

On March 6th, the framing of the house began and is due to be completed May 3rd, 2013.

The new windows supplied by MI Windows and Doors (MIWD) will provide comfort and energy efficiency. The aluminum Builder Series Windows are ENERGY STAR® rated, featuring MIWD’s dual pane TMAX SC™ glass packages that are optimized for southern climates with significant cooling and glare-reduction requirements and have double strength High Performance Low-E glass.

MI Window and Door’s Arizona Sales operations are handled by Authorized Independent Sales Firm, Southwest Rockies Sales and Tom Fullerton. Tom proudly represents MI Windows and Doors throughout the region and is always eager to support his community.

MIWD and Foxworth-Galbraith have partnered for over 30 years and Felipe Gonzalez was instrumental in organizing the supply drive. “As soon as I heard about Tony’s situation I called Tom,” stated Gonzalez. “Our partnership with MIWD over the years has been fantastic and I knew I could count on their help.” Gonzalez was able to play a big part in the collection of new materials due to his role in the Yuma Southwest Builders Association.

The Yuma Southwest Builders Association is a non-profit trade association that was created in 2002 out of a need for local representation in the contracting industry. They specialize in helping to gather labor and materials during disasters and other times of need. They also work with contractors in the area, assisting with workman’s compensation, dividend checks, and location of building materials. “Ultimately, we want to help our community,” said Gonzalez. “We try to reach out in any way we can. Tony’s house is looking great. That’s what we are here for and it’s wonderful to see the benefits of our efforts.”

Founded in 1947, MI Windows and Doors manufactures energy efficient windows and patio doors and serves the new construction and replacement window industry. The company's character, integrity, and kindness, is exemplified by the people that represent it across the country.

MI Windows and Doors at Vision House Tucson Groundbreaking

On March 25, 2013, MI Windows and Doors joined Green Builder Media at the groundbreaking event for VISION House® Tucson, a sustainable demonstration home being built in the Armory Park del Sol neighborhood. The project will focus on green design, advanced technologies, and the utilization of innovative, site-specific solutions to enhance the home’s overall sustainability.

Renowned green building expert and Vision House Tucson builder, John Wesley Miller, was also at the event along with architect Hank Krzysik, Green Builder Media President Ron Jones and CEO Sara Gutterman, Congressman Ron Barber, and Mayor Jonathan Rothschild who celebrated the kick-off of this energy efficient project.

"Words have a lot of meaning and we talked about vision here today, and the very title, Vision House, says what we are trying to do," explained Congressman Barber. "The leadership that John has provided, not only in the home builder community, but in our state and in our country, has been truly remarkable. It's really not hard to understand why Green Builder Media would choose John to build this new demonstration home. Vision House is going to be doing something that we don't talk a lot about in this country, and that is, the biggest way that we can free ourselves from our reliance on fossil fuels is by increasing energy efficiency."

With an expected HERS rating of negative 17, the home is expected to produce all its own energy and will be able to sell excess energy produced back to the local utility. Vision House Tucson will be the first net-zero energy house using the City/County Net-Zero Energy Building Standard. The total cost of owning a net-zero home (including mortgage and utilities) is less than the cost of a owning a similarly priced home that only meets the minimum requirements of the building code. Net-zero homes lock in energy rates much lower than Tucson Electric Power (TEP) can provide, giving the homeowner a secure energy future, plus they help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce TEP's need to purchase peak power.

MI Windows and Doors will be furnishing the home with MI EnergyCore windows with High Performance Low-E glass and patented AirCell™ frame technology that will enhance the energy savings provided by the structure. "MI Windows and Doors is proud to participate in another net-zero energy home. Our MI EnergyCore windows have proven themselves to be some of the most energy efficient windows made in America and are well-suited for net-zero environments," said Mike DeSoto, COO, of MI Windows and Doors.

MI EnergyCore windows were recently recognized as ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2013 by the EPA. The ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2013 designation recognizes the most efficient products among those that qualify for the ENERGY STAR and represent the leading edge in energy efficient products. For more information about MI EnergyCore windows, go to http://mienergycore.com.

The home is being built in the historic Armory del Sol neighborhood, which has offered attractive, energy efficient homes to Tucson families for more than a decade. The colorful community, comprised of more than ninety single-family homes, embodies sustainable development, embracing elements such as proper orientation, solar power generation, walking paths and parks, and proximity to schools, theaters, restaurants and other amenities of downtown Tucson. Inspired by the historic Armory Park, all the homes in Armory Park del Sol feature eye catching arches and large porches, replicating the look and feel of the nearby traditional Southwestern style homes. On average, homeowners at Armory Park del Sol pay only $300 per year to heat and cool their homes and use less than half the water of a standard Tucson home.

MIWD Products Recognized Most Efficient of ENERGY STAR 2013

The Department of Energy has recognized several of MI Doors and Windows as the Most Energy Efficient of ENERGY STAR 2013.

Each year, EPA establishes criteria for specific product categories to earn the Most Efficient mark. Products that are recognized as Most Efficient must already qualify for the ENERGY STAR label.

Product categories were selected and recognition criteria were established to ensure that products that receive this recognition demonstrate efficiency performance that is truly exceptional, inspirational, or leading edge — consistent with the interests of environmentally-motivated consumers and early adopters.

Achieving Most Energy Efficient 2013 status is a challenging task. Products must be ENERGY STAR qualified consistent with applicable ENERGY STAR Partner Commitments and the requirements set forth in the latest version of the ENERGY STAR Program Requirements Eligibility Criteria for Windows Version 5.0. Product performance (U-factor and SHGC - Solar Heat Gain Coefficient) must be certified by an EPA-recognized Certification body.

Qualifications for windows differ depending on each ENERGY STAR region. Windows must meet the applicable requirements shown in the table below:

Climate Zone              U-factor                SHGC

Northern                       ≤ 0.20                   ≥ 0.20
North-Central               ≤ 0.20                  ≤ 0.40
South-Central               ≤ 0.20                 ≤ 0.25
South                            ≤ 0.20                 ≤ 0.25

Mike DeSoto, COO, said, "We are proud that so many of our windows meet the new Most Energy Efficient 2013 criteria and expect that we will continue to be a leader in the industry and push the envelope in years to come with our energy efficient product lines."

The ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2013 designation recognizes the most efficient products among those that qualify for the ENERGY STAR. These exceptional products represent the leading edge in energy efficient products this year.

Products that are recognized as the Most Efficient of ENERGYSTAR in 2013 prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting rigorous energy efficiency performance levels set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Energy efficient choices can save families almost a third on their energy bill with similar savings of greenhouse gas emissions. See http://energystar.gov for more information.

MI EnergyCore Featured in BASF's BEYOND.High Performance Home

Las Vegas, NV - MI Windows and Doors' MI EnergyCore® windows were featured in BASF’s BEYOND.High Performanceâ„  net-zero energy home at the International Builders Show, Jan. 22-24, in Las Vegas.

Homes built to the BEYOND.High Performance program requirements are 50 percent more energy efficient than a standard code-built home and reduce indoor water use by 20 percent or more. They incorporate renewable energy and occupant behavior to reach net-zero energy use.

"We are honored that BASF chose MI EnergyCore windows for their BEYOND.High Performance home," said Mike DeSoto, Chief Operating Officer for MIWD. "The MI EnergyCore window system is a perfect fit for net-zero energy homes like this one."

The MI EnergyCore® Window System is designed for optimal energy efficiency and high performance without compromising style and functionality. The system’s high performance is derived from a combination of patented AirCell™ PVC frame technology, TMAX™ Insulating Glass, and a design that incorporates numerous physical barriers against air and water infiltration. The dual-pane, insulated glass unit features Duralite® warm-edge single-seal spacers from Quanex Building Products that include BASF Oppanol® PIB as a key ingredient.

The windows selected featured the SuperCapSR™ bronze exterior color. SuperCapSR is a co-extruded acrylic layer that is thermally fused to the PVC creating a molecularly bonded color layer that becomes an integral part of the profile. SuperCap SR was derived from military infrared reflective technology, and its surface reflects 76% of infrared light to reduce solar heat and prevent heat-related frame distortion. The highly reflective properties of SuperCap SR prevent the heat build-up issues that have been historically problematic when darker colors are applied to PVC. Unlike painted vinyl, the tough acrylic color layer is highly scratch, chip, and chalk-resistant and 12 times harder than applied paints.

“This program introduces a new way of thinking to sustainable construction,” said Rick Davenport, Director of Sustainable Construction for BASF in North America. “The BEYOND.High Performance home focuses on the people inside the structure — how they live and their well-being. In essence, this program unites chemistry and humanity to ensure that all individual parts of the home work together to achieve comfort, efficiency and affordability.”

The net-zero energy home is a result that home builders can achieve from using the BEYOND.High Performance program offered by the Center for Building Excellence at BASF. This program provides consulting, plan reviews and other services that enable builders to construct sustainable houses affordably. This includes a wide range of metrics and features for support before, during and after the build.

The program emphasizes cost-effective techniques to reach extraordinary levels of efficiency. All homes built to the BEYOND.High Performance requirements must achieve a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index score of 50 or lower.

Innovative construction techniques include a high-performance, hybrid insulation design in the roof decking – consisting of open-cell spray foam applied on a layer of closed-cell foam. Another unique technique is the use of fluid, spray-applied flashing on the exterior for superior air and moisture barrier performance. Other features of the BEYOND.High Performance home include use of:

-insulated concrete forms,
-advanced framing techniques to reduce lumber use,
-light-emitting diode (LED) lighting, and,
-low-flow faucets

“Right-sizing the mechanicals to select the right equipment is part of our holistic systems approach when building these homes. This approach allows the homeowner to enjoy smart technology and reduced energy use at an affordable cost," said Davenport. “Every aspect of this home, from the ground up, works as part of a system to create the most energy-efficient and sustainable environment possible.”

$200 Tax Credits for Energy Efficient Windows Reinstated

Good news for homeowners who replaced their windows in 2012 or are going to do so in 2013. The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 is restoring energy efficient tax credits for windows, doors and skylights. The bill reinstates the 25c tax credits that expired at the end of 2011 and extends them through the end of 2013.

Several products from MI Windows and Doors qualify for the energy tax credits provided in the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012.

Windows must meet the 2010 ENERGY STAR ratings for both the U Factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient to qualify for this credit. These ratings vary based on the region of the country you are located in.

Please refer to What Makes It ENERGY STAR? to determine what region you are in and which windows qualify.

The 2012 Tax Credit offers 10% of the cost of the home improvement up to a maximum of $500. In order to qualify, the home improvement must be made on an existing home and principal residence. Windows can only account for $200 of the available $500. Additionally, the new bill extends business credits of up to $2,000 for builders and contractors of new and renovated energy efficient homes.

"We think it's a really great move to help consumers afford (improvements) and encourage them to think about making these energy-efficiency investment in their homes," said Ronnie Kweller, a spokesperson for the Alliance to Save Energy, a Washington energy-efficiency lobby. She noted that the law also contains incentives for appliance manufacturers to produce efficient clothes washers, dishwashers and refrigerators, and for home builders to construct energy-efficient homes. (Ohio.com, January 9, 2013)

All renovations, both homeowner and business, must be completed by December 31st, 2013. The bill retroactively affects projects completed in 2012.

Consult your tax professional for instructions on how to apply.

MI Windows and Doors Launches New Window Series: The HomeMaker3

MI Windows and Doors announces the launch of a new energy efficient window line, the HomeMaker3 Series.

Available in the Western Region, HomeMaker3 windows are designed to meet the new stringent energy requirements for the proposed ENERGY STAR Version 6 and are manufactured in a state-of-the-art production facility in Prescott Valley, AZ.

The HomeMaker3 Series is a complete line of traditionally styled windows designed for optimal energy efficiency and high performance. HomeMaker3 Series windows come standard with ¾” dual pane Low-E glass, dual weather stripping, and a certified forced entry resistant locking system.

HomeMaker3 Series windows are custom built and available in a wide range of sizes and options. There are 6 basic styles; horizontal slider, single hung, casement, awning, fixed, and architectural shapes. Each of these styles is available in continuous frame combinations to minimize the need for mulling. Windows are available in 1/8” increments of width and height and five frame options to achieve the optimum fit for new construction or replacement window projects.

All styles are available in four color combinations, numerous grid options, and multiple glass options including laminated glass. Laminated glass meets the ASTM safety glass requirements plus improves the sound transmission coefficient (STC) up to 50% and blocks 99% of the UV light which causes fading.

All styles of the HomeMaker3 Series window can be upgraded with TMAX insulating glass. TMAX glass is 3.1 mm Double Strength glass with dual seal SuperSpacer. SuperSpacer is a 100% foam, non-metallic, structural spacer, optimized for energy efficiency and improved sound absorption. TMAX HE (High Efficiency) includes a neutral colored Low-E and Argon gas. TMAX HE is ideal for northern climate zones with increased heating requirements. TMAX SC (Solar Control) is a high performance Low-E glass designed to reduce the solar heat gain of the glass by an additional 10-20% vs. a neutral color Low-E. TMAX SC is optimal southern climates with significant cooling and glare-reduction requirements.

"The line provides our dealers with a complete, feature rich and cost-effective family of products to meet the next phase of ENERGY STAR requirements," states Mike DeSoto, President of MI's Western division.

There are two solid vinyl color options available for the windows - white and adobe - which are made from an AAMA certified PVC blend that is engineered for and field-tested in extreme environments. In addition to the vinyl colors, an optional pre-finished SuperCapSR bronze exterior color is available on both the adobe and white frames. For maximum durability, the SuperCapSR color technology is co-extruded with a thermally fused acrylic to create a molecularly-fused color layer that becomes an integral part of the profile. Unlike painted vinyl, the tough acrylic color layer is highly scratch, chip, and chalk-resistant. SuperCapSR’s highly reflective properties prevents damaging heat build-up on the PVC frame.

MI Windows and Doors offers the HM-390 vinyl patio door and the EC-190 French Rail patio door as ENERGY STAR Version 6 doors which compliment the HomeMaker3 windows.

For more information about the HomeMaker3 Window Series or to find a HomeMaker3 dealer, see http://miwd.com.

MI Windows and Doors' Supplier ProPlastix Gets SHARP Certification

MI Windows and Doors supplier, ProPlastix and its Millersburg and Elizabethville manufacturing facilities, received Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) awards from OSHA in recognition of its safety and health management systems.

The SHARP award is presented to employers who operate an exemplary safety and health management system facility. Acceptance into SHARP by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) qualifies ProPlastix as a model amongst its peers for work site safety and health. Out of 7 million US work sites, less than 2,000 have earned OSHA SHARP Certification.

Some of the safety improvements that the team at ProPlastix made to qualify for SHARP included:

1. Hazard anticipation and detection.

2. Hazard Prevention.

3. Assuring OSHA mandated programs are in place.

4. Maintained injury rates below national average for past three years.

5. Creation of trained safety teams for awareness and support.

One additional objective was to keep the team aware of their surroundings and continually improve all aspects of the program for the best environment for the team.

Jeff Paradise, VP of manufacturing reflected on the award, "“The SHARP certification is one award that all team members should be proud of. It not only involves assuring that all assessments associated with the program are met but more importantly assures that we are all committed to Safety First!"

The Gratz manufacturing plant recently upgraded to energy efficient T8 bulbs and fixtures, which will help to reduce energy usage at the facility. Motion detectors were also installed in key areas to also save energy.

"The team should be proud of their efforts to save energy. Saving energy not only helps reduce our carbon footprint, but also saves the company money; savings that we can pass along to our customers," said Stan Sullivan, President MIWD Eastern Division.

The E-Power Energy-Smart Business Honor Roll was developed to recognize local business, institutions and non-profit organizations for taking measures to become more energy efficient.

The organizations are then listed in a directory of Honor Roll Members on the PPL website. The members are also able to utilize the Honor Roll logo to show their participation in the program.

MIWD Representative Supports Window Installation at UMC Parsonage

On November, 3, 2012, MI Windows and Doors' independent representative, Brad Holtz, from Authorized Independent Sales Firm Flyover Premier Sales, supported the installation of 20 new windows and a new front door in the parsonage of the United Methodist Church (UMC) in Rising City, NE.

As with any task, the work of a church is easier when people work together. This was exemplified when people came from the sister United Methodist Church in Brainard, NE, to assist in the installation. The members of both churches installed the windows in the house while Brad Holtz gave clear instructions and guidance to ensure that the work went smoothly.

The new windows supplied by MI Windows and Doors, Inc. (MIWD), and their distributor Mid Am Building Supply, will make the parsonage more comfortable and energy efficient. The 1355 Series Windows are dual pane, argon enhanced units that were very easy to install. The new door is not only beautiful, it will also save in energy consumption. All the windows and the door were installed in less than one day.

UMC Pastor Fay Hubbarb expressed her approval of the new energy efficient windows and door, "On this lovely day people laughed, prepared food, prayed, ate and worshiped God together. The Rising City UMC will soon be a viable place for Bible Studies, group meetings, a secure place for pastors to stay in case of bad weather, and a place within the community that presents a strong and healthy image to represent God’s love and hope."

MI Window and Door’s Mid-Western Sales operations are handled by Authorized Independent Sales Firm, Flyover Premier Sales. Brad Holtz along with business partner John Perkins, lead a Flyover sales team that proudly represents MI Windows and Doors in the States of NE, KS, MO, IL, IA, WI, MI, IN, OH, and KY. Flyover’s sales staff is always eager to support any church and non-for profit organization just as they did here for the United Methodist Church.

Brad Holtz, Flyover Premier Sales Representative, was instrumental in facilitating the installation and voiced his support of the project, "The community building that occurs by bringing church members together, to preserve and maintain church assets is profound. Providing a safe and healthy environment, educating the benefits of energy efficiency, and building church unity for all parishioners was the goal behind the Rising City UMC window replacement project and Flyover Premier Sales was happy to support the effort.".

Replacing old drafty windows are clearly one of the best avenues for reducing energy consumption in any home or church. The journey towards energy efficiency is often made easier with support programs through MI Windows and Doors and local utility cooperative rebates. Flyover Premier Sales is knowledgable and able to assist in capturing these types of rebates when any church or non-profit organization calls.

Every church member that showed up to help eagerly rolled up their sleeves and worked to accomplish the project. Some picked up trash, some installed insulation around the units, and some applied sealant around the perimeter of the windows. Every participant found a role that they could fulfill including a number of the ladies of the church, who worked very hard to provide coffee and pastries in the morning, and a spectacular luncheon, all while 20+ parishioners strapped on a tool belt.

“The members of this church worked in a unified fashion and they all clearly recognized just how important the preservation of their church assets are to future generations that worship there. The members have clearly seen the value in energy efficiency and the vision for the future. I am happy to have been a partner to Rising City and the United Methodist Church. I take personal pride in the overall improvement to the appearance and the improved energy efficiency that the Rising City, NE parsonage is now realizing," said Holtz.

Founded in 1947, MI Windows and Doors manufactures energy efficient windows and patio doors and serves the new construction and replacement window industry. The company's character, integrity, and kindness, is exemplified by the people that represent it across the country.

MI Windows and Doors Awarded Crystal Achievement Award

MI Windows and Doors (MIWD), one of America’s leading window and door manufacturers, was awarded a Crystal Achievment Award for Best Industry Website, Large Manufacturer, from Window & Door magazine. Selected by a panel of judges representing all segments of the industry, the awards recognize significant innovations and achievements in window and door technology, manufacturing, and marketing.

“I am truly impressed by the marketing category winners this year,” says Nicole Harris, Window & Door publisher. “We continue to see fresh ideas in literature and online media. It's also clear many companies are embracing new technologies, not just in making windows and doors, but selling them too.”

MI Windows & Doors launched a special site in 2011 to support its new MI EnergyCore window system. The website was designed from the ground up to take advantage of mobile devices and social media like YouTube and blogging. To make the site as user friendly and media rich as possible, new content such as product videos, customer-friendly blogging features like, “Ask the Expert” and “FAQ” were implemented. The site has been designed around several different customer types with easy access for homeowners who are looking for information about energy efficient windows and doors, professionals like builders and architects who need installation and technical information, and a password-protected dealer portal with tools to help market, sell and support the new window line.

Designed to be device neutral, the site supports all platforms, including all major web browsers, iPads and Android-based tablets, and Smartphones like Blackberrys, iPhones and Androids. It is coded using HTML 5.0 and JavaScript so that animations and videos work on all devices unlike Flash-based sites that exclude many customers who use Apple products. The mobile version of the site will load automatically and provides a robust experience while still allowing users to access the full site if they choose to.

Another unique feature of the website is the ability to create and update a custom iPad application that uses the same content. The application has been rolled out to the MI sales force and MI EnergyCore authorized dealer channel. The application is able to take selected content and download it locally to the iPad so that an internet connection is not needed to view videos, access technical documents, price lists, brochures or sell sheets.

MI Windows and Doors Donates Windows to Homes for Our Troops

MI Windows and Doors (MIWD), one of America’s leading window and door manufacturers, donated and helped to install a complete window package of new MI EnergyCore windows into a Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) home being built in Parker, Colorado.  The home was built for Army Corporal Nick Orchowski and his family.

Homes for Our Troops provides homes at no cost to eligible veterans by raising donations of money, building materieals, and professional labor.  The Charity Watch, one of the country’s premier charity watchdog organizations, has included Homes for Our Troops in their "Top-Rated Veterans & Military Charities" listing.  Only 7 of the 40 Veterans charities rated by AIP are included in the Top-Rated Category.

Army Corporal Nick Orchowski was on his first deployment when he was left a quadriplegic after being thrown from the gunner’s hatch of a vehicle that was hit during an insurgents' attack, in Baghdad, Iraq in May 2004. Married only four days before deploying to Iraq, CPL Orchowski was the main gunner of the lead vehicle in a convoy, when they came under attack while on the main supply route leading into Baghdad. Orchowski suffered fractures of C4, C5, and C6 vertebrae and was immediately paralyzed from the neck down.

“We are grateful for the thousands of donors supporting our mission, such as MI Windows and Doors, whose generosity and support has helped enable Homes for Our Troops to build this home for Nick Orchowski and his family,” said Kenneth Preston, President, Homes for Our Troops.

Nick expressed his thanks to those who are helping to provide him with a specially adapted home from Homes for Our Troops.  "Thank you for your support and kindness, not only have you honored me as a veteran of combat, but you have also changed my family's lives as well. I will no longer have to adapt to the un-adapted. I have had to rely on other people to help me with most things in my new home. I will now be able to be more independent. Homes for Our Troops and their volunteers and donors depict the True American Spirit! Thank you," he said.

The MI EnergyCore Window System has been recognized as one of the energy efficient windows available on the market today and was recently awarded the 2011 Product of the Year Award for energy efficiency by Builder News Magazine.  What this means for  Nick and his family is that they will have lower energy bills as well as stronger, more secure, and quieter windows.

Mike Schnitker, Regional Sales Manager, assisted with the installation. "It was satisfying knowing that these MI EnergyCore windows are going to such a good cause. They installed easily and I was proud of the job that our team did to produce such a quality product. These windows will provide Nick with many years of energy savings."

Volunteers are needed to complete the landscaping at the home.  Please join the team for the Volunteer Day on June 30, 2012.  Volunteers should bring shovels, rakes, gloves, buckets, work clothes,  gloves, coolers and ice for the day!  The home is located at 3004 Coal Creek Street, Parker, CO 80138.  There will also be fundraising opportunities on site to raise donations for CPL Nick Orchowski's home. HFOT Gear will be sold and there will be a Pancake Breakfast that morning at the site.

MI Windows and Doors is commited to giving back to the community and especially to organizations that support our men and women in uniform. Over the last 10 years, MI Windows and Doors has donated over $1.2M in products and services to charity.

MI Windows and Doors Gratz Plant Receives SHARP Award

Gratz, PA – MI Windows and Doors, Inc., and its Gratz manufacturing facility received a Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) award from OSHA in
recognition of its safety and health management systems. This is now the second manufacturing facility that has received this award. The Hegins, PA facility recently received a recertification of their SHARP award.

The SHARP award is presented to employers who operate an exemplary safety and health management system facility. Acceptance into SHARP by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) qualifies MI Windows and Doors as a model amongst its peers for work site safety and health. Out of 7 million US work sites, less than 2,000 have earned OSHA SHARP Certification.

To qualify for SHARP, companies must undergo a comprehensive audit, correct all identified hazards, demonstrate that effective safety and health programs are in place, and maintain injury rates below the national average for the last three years. The MIWD Gratz manufacturing facility’s final day of full inspection occurred on February 1, 2012.

Some of the safety improvements that the team at Gratz made to quality for SHARP included:  improvements to machine guarding to prevent all types of injuries, designing processes and jobs to be ergonomically friendly, cross training and job rotation, creation of safety teams for more awareness and team support, and training new and existing employees of all types of hazards.

One additional objective was to keep the team aware of their surroundings and continually improve all aspects of the program for the best environment for the team.

Founded in 1947, MI Windows and Doors manufactures energy efficient windows and patio doors and serves the new construction and replacement window industry. MIWD’s focus on safety, quality and accuracy is enhanced by the principles of lean manufacturing, a practice MIWD has been using for a number of years.

MI Windows and Doors Named Top Manufacturer of R-5 Windows for 2011

MI Windows and Doors, Inc., one of America’s leading window and door manufacturers, has been named the top manufacturer of R-5 Windows  for 2011, according to the Department of Energy’s High Performance Windows Volume Purchase Program. MIWD offers two complete product lines that meet the required .22 U-Value program requirement. MI Windows and Doors takes pride in producing energy efficient windows and continues to invest in next generation products that surpass the R-5 program requirements.

The goal of the High Performance Windows Volume Purchase Program is to expand the market for highly insulating windows by reducing market barriers and offering window products at attractive prices, thus making highly insulated windows more affordable. Manufacturers that participate in the program are required to report total unit sales of R-5 Windows monthly, and after totaling the 2011 year, MI Windows and Doors sold the most units out of the 26 participating manufacturers.

Josh Williard, the R-5 Program Manager at MIWD, reiterated the advantages that the program offers consumers, "MI Windows and Doors has been on board with the High Performance Windows Volume Purchase Program since the beginning. We understand the value of highly energy efficient windows and continue to promote their benefits to our customers every day".

The Windows Volume Purchase Program team has also recently announced new changes to the participation requirements including the elimination of the 20-window minimum purchase requirement. Without a minimum purchase requirement, more homeowners can take advantage of attractive pricing and make their homes more energy efficient.

For more information about the High Performance Windows Volume Purchase Program, please visit www.windowsvolumepurchase.org.

About the High Performance Windows Volume Purchase Program

The Department of Energy's Windows Volume Purchase Program is a market transformation effort that allows potential buyers of highly insulating windows and storm windows to obtain bids from a consortium of qualified window vendors. The program brings together buyers and industry partners to overcome the price barrier of highly insulating windows (a U-factor of around 0.22) and low-E storm windows and to increase their widespread market commercialization for maximum energy savings. This program not only increases the availably of these products, but provides an explanation of benefits associated with these high performance products.

MI Windows and Doors Hegins Plant Receives SHARP Recertification

MI Windows and Doors, Inc., and its Hegins manufacturing facility received recertification of a Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) award from OSHA in recognition of its safety and health management systems. This is the second time that the facility has been awarded the certificate.

Some of the safety improvements that the team at Hegins made to quality for SHARP included:

1.  Improvements to machine guarding to prevent all types of injuries.
2.  Designing processes and jobs to be ergonomically friendly.
3.  Cross training and job rotation.
4.  Creation of safety teams for more awareness and team support.
5.  Train and instruct new and existing employees of all types of hazards.

One additional objective was to keep the team aware of their surroundings and continually improve all aspects of the program for the best environment for the team.

Doug Reed, the General Manager, of the Hegins manufacturing facility, reflected on the award, "I am proud of the strides that all of our team members have made to receive this honor. The bottom line is that our team members are going home to their families as safe and sound as possible."

MI Windows and Doors Plants Nationwide Improve Performance

MI Windows and Doors, one of America’s leading window and door manufacturers, released its Shipped On Time and Complete Performance metrics for its manufacturing plants. The average for all plants in 2011 improved to 99.5% compared to 98.6% in 2010. Shipped On Time and Complete Performance is a measure of the number of orders that were shipped with all of the windows and doors that were purchased on one order.

"Our customers have told us that when they place an order for a window and door package, one of their highest expectations is that the order will ship with all of the products in that order," stated Jeff Paradise, Senior Vice President Operations, for MI Windows and Doors. "And so we've been measuring our plants on this metric to gauge how we are meeting this expectation. We are proud of the job our teams have been doing as it relates to Shipped Complete goal at all of our plants. It’s just like flying; you have to know where you are to know where you want to go!"

In order to increase the performance year over year, teams were asked to come up with ideas that would help eliminate issues that prevented the ongoing 100% goal from being attained. One of the ideas that surfaced by a team at the Gratz plant was to refine the process of fabricating the custom glass and grids creating additional time to respond to customer requests. This was a small change but one that made a difference.

"MI Windows and Doors takes great pride in delivering some of the most energy efficient windows on the market quickly and completely. Our achievement of Shipped On Time and Complete for 2011 is something that we are proud of," said Lynn Harner, the Gratz Plant Manager.

MI Windows and Doors has embraced the principle of continuous improvement across the whole organization. Plant leadership promotes an atmosphere of continuous learning and fosters an environment that not only accepts, but embraces change. Team members are engaged through active participation to improve all aspects of the production process.

MIWD Releases an Architectural Resource Directory for MI EnergyCore

MI Windows and Doors, one of America’s leading window and door manufacturers, has released an Architectural Resource Directory for the MI EnergyCore Window System on its website at www.mienergycore.com. The MI EnergyCore Window System is the most complete and simple solution for the architect seeking high performance light commercial windows.

The Architectural Resource Directory includes test reports, glass configurations, technical specifications including thermal and structural performance, STC ratings, a CSI 3 Part Specification, and detail drawings in DWG, DXF, and PDF formats. The Archtictural Resource Directory will allow architects, design professionals, and builders to get the information they need to specify the award-winning windows.

"There are lots of products that provide high design pressures (>/=DP-40), OR low U values (<.20), OR high STC ratings (40), OR dark color options.  There are very few that offer all of these things in one window series and across the breadth of window styles and configurations that we are offering in the MI EnergyCore window system,” states Mike DeSoto, President of MI's Western division.

Builder News Magazine (bnmag.com) selected the MI EnergyCore Windows System as the best energy efficient building product for 2011. The windows were selected from the hundreds of new building products that were released in 2011. The editors of BUILDERnews Magazine selected the top two products in each of 14 categories, representing the most innovative, energy efficient, inventive and useful product introductions of 2011.

The window system uses AirCell PVC technology, a patented, 100% recyclable, material that is co-extruded and thermally bonded into the frame. A standard dual pane MI EnergyCore Window meets the proposed Energy Star 2013 standards in all zones.  When upgraded to triple pane glass, the system meets the Department of Energy R-5 standards in all styles and in any configuration.

The high performance frame uses truss internal webbing which maximizes the torsional and in-line strength.  All styles achieve an AAMA Performance Grade of LC-40 and can comfortably support the added weight of triple pane glass.

MI EnergyCore windows can be upgraded with TMAX SQS Laminated glass.  Laminated glass adds the safety, sound control and UV protection.   Laminated glass is highly break resistant, reduces the sound transmission up to 50%, and blocks 99% of the UV light that cause fading, all without compromising energy efficiency or clarity. MI EnergyCore Windows are available in a patented, thermally fused, SuperCapSR exterior acrylic cap bronze color that reflects 76% of the infrared light thereby preventing heat build-up on the frame.

The MI EnergyCore Window System’s unique design results in a more energy efficient, more secure, stronger and quieter window with traditional style.

Habitat for Humanity Receives MI EnergyCore Energy Efficient Windows

On January 16th, 2012, MI Windows and Doors (MIWD), one of America’s leading window and door manufacturers, donated and installed a complete window package of new MI EnergyCore windows into a Prescott Area Habitat for Humanity (PAHH) home being built in Chino Valley, Arizona.  The Slider and Single Hung styles that were installed are the latest offering of the MI EnergyCore Window System and were released in October of 2011.

The MI EnergyCore Window System is designed for optimal energy efficiency and high performance without compromising style and functionality. The system’s high performance is derived from a combination of patented AirCell PVC frame technology, TMAX Insulating Glass, and a design that incorporates numerous physical barriers against air and water infiltration.

The frame is manufactured with a patented AirCell PVC material that is co-extruded and thermally bonded. This creates a fully insulated, corner welded frame that results in superior energy efficiency and strength. The frame is designed to support triple pane insulating glass to maximum residential sizes in any style. Additional strength is achieved thru internal aluminum reinforcements at the lock rails for maximum security.

What this means for the new deserving Habitat for Humanity homeowners is that they will have lower energy bills and will have stronger, more secure, and quieter windows.

Jim Laipple, the Product Manager for the new MI EnergyCore product line, assisted with the installation. "It was satisfying knowing that these MI EnergyCore windows are going to such a good cause. They installed easily and I was proud of the job that our team did to produce such a quality product. These windows will provide the homeowner with many years of energy savings."

The MI EnergyCore Window System has been recognized as one of the energy efficient windows available on the market today and was recently awarded the 2011 Product of the Year Award for energy efficiency by Builder News Magazine. See http://www.bnmag.com/ for the complete list of winners.

MIWD Announces New Casement Platform Focused On Energy Efficient Design

GRATZ, PA- MI Windows and Doors released their new energy efficient and design focused casement platform into the window market this month. The company’s casement window has been designed to meet and exceed demands for long lasting energy efficiency, aesthetic appeal and price.

“The new casement has been designed from scratch as opposed to being modified; something that is more common in the industry. The benefit in this ground floor approach is that we did our homework, and literally created a casement window that answers the needs of our customers on every angle,” says Stan Sullivan, Eastern President of MI Windows and Doors, a leading window and door manufacturer in the U.S., based in Gratz, PA. “MI is a vertically integrated company as a whole so having our design engineers, testing facility, sales team focus groups and manufacturing process teams together on this, I am confident this is a homerun,” added.

Casement windows are commonly featured in rooms where the hinged open design and full ventilation is well supported, often in bathrooms, kitchens, offices but are a great, full window for any room. As with any single or double hung window, it is important to find windows that are thermally efficient, meet or exceed Energy Star® standards and are designed to add to your homes aesthetic appeal.

MI’s casement window will meet ENERGY STAR standards until 2013 and are offered for new construction and replacement designs.

U-Values and STC Ratings for MI EnergyCore Energy Efficient Windows

MI Windows and Doors, one of America’s leading window and door manufacturers, has released test results including U-Values and STC Ratings for its new MI EnergyCore™ Window System on its website at mienergycore.com.

The MI EnergyCore Window System is designed for optimal energy efficiency and high performance without compromising style and functionality.  The system’s high performance is derived from a combination of patented AirCell™ PVC frame technology, TMAX™ Insulating Glass, and a design that incorporates numerous physical barriers against air and water infiltration. The thoughtful design of the MI EnergyCore Series results in products that are substantially more energy efficient, stronger, more secure and quieter.

The line provides a complete, cost-effective family of products to meet the next phase of ENERGY STAR requirements and qualify for the Department of Energy’s High Performance Windows Program (R-5). "Most high performance window systems offered today involve complicated exceptions. For example, some styles meet the grade while other styles or configurations do not. MI EnergyCore is designed to meet the grade in any style or any configuration. Therefore, homeowners do not need to sacrifice style or aesthetic upgrades to gain performance," states Mike DeSoto, President of MI's Western division.

The frame is manufactured with a patented AirCell PVC material that is co-extruded and thermally bonded.  This creates a fully insulating, corner-welded frame that results in superior energy efficiency and strength. The frame also incorporates oversized balance pockets and optimally placed internal webbing to handle the weight of 1 1/8" OA triple pane insulating glass across the entire size catalog, and with any grid or glass combination including tempered and laminate glass.  The primary purpose of these design features are to support the weight and optimum IG (Insulated Glass) thickness of triple pane glass.  These same features allow the system to be glazed with laminate or dual laminate glass without compromising thermal performance or grid options.  Furthermore, the MI EnergyCore design maintains air infiltration at less than .015 cfm/ft2 (half the certification limit of .30 cfm / ft2).   Air Infiltration resistance and sound control are strongly correlated.

MI EnergyCore standard TMAX glass package is offered with two laminate glass upgrade options:  TMAX SQS™ (Safety, Quiet and Solar Control) and TMAX STC™.  The laminate glass used in both packages incorporates a .030” thick PVB interlayer that is specifically designed to block sound transmission.   TMAX SQS includes a single piece of laminate glass on the interior pane and achieves STC numbers in the mid thirties across the entire product line.  TMAX STC is an 1 1/8” OA panel with laminate glass on both the interior and exterior pane.  TMAX STC has been certified with STC values between 38-41 across the entire product line.  These values equate to a window that is approximately 50% quieter than the typical dual pane window and makes MI EnergyCore one of the most effective and practical sound control windows on the market.  Most noise reduction window solutions can only achieve this level of noise reduction with bulky and costly 4 pane systems that limit style and installation options. This was the first ever installation of the new MI EnergyCore Window System. The highly energy efficient casement and awning windows were installed by employees of MI Windows and Doors with triple pane TMAX HE LoE glass packages for maximum energy savings.

What this means for the new deserving Habitat for Humanity homeowner is that her energy bills will be lower and she has stronger, more secure, and quieter windows.

Dan Cummings, General Manager of the Prescott Valley MI Windows and Doors factory, assisted with the installation. "It was satisfying knowing that the first MI EnergyCore windows to ever be installed were going to such a good cause. They installed flawlessly and I was proud of the job that our team did to produce such a quality product. These windows will provide the homeowner with many years of energy savings."

The Prescott Area Habitat for Humanity was established to help families living in unsafe or inadequate housing to become homeowners by providing zero-interest mortgages with no cash down. Building of the home becomes a team effort between Habitat for Humanity and the new homeowners as the families must also assist in the construction of their homes. The overall experience is unforgettable for the volunteers as they work with the new homeowners and for the new homeowners from the pride they have when they receive the keys to their new home.

"Prescott Area Habitat for Humanity is thrilled to be the first to have the new EnergyCore windows installed in our current build in Prescott Valley. We are especially pleased for the homeowner who will have increased energy efficiency resulting in lower utility costs and sustained affordability," said PAHH Executive Director Miriam Haubrich. MIWD Launches New Energy Efficient Window System: MI EnergyCoreâ„¢

Prescott Valley, AZ - MI Windows and Doors (MIWD) announced that it has launched a new energy efficient window and door line, the MI EnergyCore™ Window System, which is manufactured on a new state-of-the-art production line in Prescott Valley, Arizona.

The MI EnergyCore™ Window System is designed for optimal energy efficiency and high performance without compromising style and functionality. The system’s high performance is derived from a combination of patented AirCell™ PVC frame technology, TMAX™ Insulating Glass, and a design that incorporates numerous physical barriers against air and water infiltration.

The line provides a complete, cost-effective family of products to meet the next phase of ENERGY STAR requirements and to qualify for the Department of Energy’s High Performance Windows Program (R-5). "Most high performance window systems offered today involve complicated exceptions. For example, some styles meet the grade while other styles or configurations do not. MI EnergyCore™ is designed to meet the grade in any style or any configuration. Therefore, homeowners do not need to sacrifice style or aesthetic upgrades to gain performance," states Mike DeSoto, President of MI's Western division.

The frame is manufactured with a patented AirCell™ PVC material that is co-extruded and thermally bonded. This creates a fully insulating, corner welded frame that results in superior energy efficiency and strength. The frame also incorporates oversized balance pockets and optimally placed internal webbing to handle the weight of 1 1/8 OA triple pane insulating glass across the entire size catalog, and with any grid or glass combination including tempered and laminate glass. These important design attributes result in one of the most comprehensive offerings of R-5 (u-value .20) windows on the market. Not only is the frame extremely energy efficient, but it is also environmentally-friendly, made of 20% recycled materials and is 100% recyclable.

Numerous air and water barriers are engineered into the panel and frame interface. These barriers include multiple contact points of weather stripping and/or compression bulbs, reinforced/interlocking meeting rails, and a pocketed sill with a sloped drainage path. These features are designed to prevent air and water infiltration even in harsh conditions. All styles of the MI EnergyCore™ Series have been tested to an AAMA Performance Grade LC-40 or above.

There are two solid vinyl color options available for the windows: white and adobe, made from an AAMA certified PVC Blend which is engineered for, and field-tested in extreme environments. In addition to the vinyl colors, an optional pre-finished SuperCapSR™ bronze exterior color is available on both the adobe and white frames. For maximum durability, the SuperCapSR™ color technology is co-extruded with a thermally fused acrylic to create a molecularly-fused color layer that becomes an integral part of the profile. Unlike painted vinyl, the tough acrylic color layer is highly scratch, chip, and chalk-resistant and 12 times harder than applied paints. SuperCapSR’s highly reflective properties prevents damaging heat build-up on the PVC frame.

For added security and sound control the MI EnergyCore™ windows can be upgraded with SQS Laminate glass. Like the laminate glass in an automobile windshield, SQS glass provides safety from internal or external penetration. Additionally, the unique PVB interlayer reduces the sound transmission by up to 50% while providing over 99% UV protection.

To compliment the efficient window line, a French Rail Patio Door is offered as well. The MI EnergyCore™ French Rail Patio Door offers superior thermal performance and is built using MikronWood, a solid core thermoplastic material that is rot-proof and nearly impervious to insects, moisture and humidity. The result is a traditional mortise and tenon joined door with the look and feel of a wood door but the weather-resistant, high energy efficiency and no-maintenance advantages of a composite.

The entire line incorporates the rich features and options expected in a premium window line including PVD plated hardware, stainless steel coastal packages and extruded aluminum screen frames with Clarity™ mesh.

To support the window launch, MIWD has developed a multi-pronged marketing strategy that includes mobile and social media tools and an iPad application in addition to traditional tools like a robust website.

The website has been designed around customer types with easy access for homeowners who are looking for information about energy efficient windows and doors, professionals like builders and architects who need installation and technical information, and a password-protected dealer portal with tools to help market, sell, and support the new window line. The website is media-rich and has been designed to be accessible via all devices including all web browsers, tablets, and Smartphones with both web and mobile-friendly versions.

The marketing strategy also includes a comprehensive social media campaign, and it has launched a Facebook page, http://facebook.com/mienergycore, a Twitter feed, http://twitter.com/mienergycore, and a YouTube Channel, http://YouTube.com/mienergycore.

A custom iPad application has been developed for MI EnergyCore™ Certified Dealers that allows them to have instant access to specs, brochures, and videos that have been developed to explain the advantages of the windows and doors. It allows technical, sales, and marketing materials to be updated electronically saving time and resources.

The company is in the final stages of testing the windows and will start taking orders on August 15th. In order to successfully ramp up the production of the MI EnergyCore Window System, a two phase launch has been planned for. Phase 1 will be complete in August and Phase 2 in September. Phase 1 will include the release of the following window styles: Double Hung, Casement, Picture Window, Awning, and French Rail Patio Door; and Phase 2 will add Single Hung, Single Slider, XOX, Combination Slide Windows, and the Specialty Shape windows to the product line.

"Our window dealers and their customers desire a good, better, best offering," adds DeSoto. "MIWD strives to be best-in-class in each of these categories and MI EnergyCore™ met our test for the best. The products are designed to be significantly more energy efficient, stronger, more secure and quieter than any other complete family of products on the market."

The windows and doors will be sold through MI EnergyCore™ Certified Dealers, who have been trained and certified to best present the features and benefits of the new energy efficient window system. Window dealers who are interested in finding out how to sell the new product line can find more information on the website.

MIWD Installs New Shrink Wrap Packaging System

Prescott Valley, AZ - MI Windows and Doors, one of America’s leading window and door manufacturers, installed a new state-of-the-art shrink wrap packing system in it Prescott Valley, Az, factory to protect its energy-efficient windows during the shipping process.

The unique packaging solution will ensure that MI EnergyCore Windows arrive to the job site with the same high quality that they leave the factory in Prescott Valley, Arizona.

The state-of-the-art shrink wrap packing system is made by EDL Packaging Engineers, who has been making packaging systems for over 40 years in Green Bay, WI.

The energy-efficient windows go through a multi-stage process that wraps the window panels in heavy duty polyethylene film. Once the windows are loaded into the packaging system, the window panel is controlled throughout the wrapping process to produce a tight, stable and transparent package.

A low tension feed-on-demand film delivery system consistently delivers the required film sleeve around the product. Then the edges are cut and set with a Teflon® coated constant heat seal bar that is heated to over 600 degrees. Then the window enters the shrink tunnel, where a directable air flow ensures uniform film shrinkage. After exiting the shrink tunnel, a film cooler sets the film prior to handling in order to maintain package integrity.

"The new packaging system will add incremental value to our products as they will have an additional level of protection while they ship to our customers," states Andy Mortagne, the Assistant Plant Manager, who is in charge of the process.

The new custom shrink wrap packaging system is just one more reason that the MI EnergyCore Window System is Beautifully Innovative.

You can see a video of the shink wrap machine in action at the factory in the Video Library.

MIWD Using Latest Technologies to Launch New Line

As it appeared in Window & Door on June 6th 2011:

With a social media campaign already started, the Western division of MI Windows & Doors is planning to launch its new MI EnergyCore window line in July with a special dealer event at its Prescott, Ariz., operations. Attendees will be presented with an iPad loaded with a custom app to emphasize MI's mobile strategy designed to help dealers sell the new line.

"Our window dealers and their customers desire a good, better, best offering," states Mike DeSoto, president of MI's Western division. "MIWD strives to be best-in-class in each of these categories. Energy Core met our test for the best. The products are designed to be significantly more energy efficient, stronger, more secure and quieter than any complete family of products on the market."

For dealers, the line provides a simple, cost-effective family of products to meet the next phase of ENERGY STAR requirements and to qualify for the Department of Energy’s High Performance Windows Program, DeSoto adds. "Most high performance solutions offered today involve complicated exceptions. For example, some styles meet the grade while other styles or configurations do not. Energy Core is designed to meet the grade in any style or any configuration. Therefore, the dealers do not need to sacrifice style or aesthetic upgrades to gain performance."

"We're going to the next level with this line," says Patrick Schutte, business development manager for MI's Western division. "We believe this is a unique, premium product in the West that gives us and our dealers a competitive advantage." The new MI iPad app give dealers the tools they need to educate window buyers about the unique product line and demonstrate its superior performance, he continues.

Some of the content for the MI EnergyCore app–including several videos–for the line are already available for viewing on a Facebook page developed by MI, Schutte points out. He also emphasizes that roll out behind the new product is more than the iPad app, but a complete social media and mobile strategy.

"We want to embrace and leverage social media channels and all they bring to the customer experience: ease of use, rich media, and a more casual way to communicate with our dealers and window buyers," agrees DeSoto."For example, on our Facebook page, we’ve posted pictures of our factory team in Prescott Valley. This helps our customers see the real people that make our windows and doors and how they strive to make the best windows possible with care and attention."

The company has also launched a Twitter feed and YouTube channels for the new line, he adds.

DeSoto calls the mobile strategy a key differentiator as well. "Our new content-driven web site at www.mienergycore.com [to be launched in July] will automatically detect if a mobile user is accessing it and will enable Smartphone users, iPhone and Android to start, to view the rich content on our site in a format that they can digest easily and quickly," he notes.

Window buyers will be able to take advantage of the technology also. "When a customer is at a dealer’s showroom and wants to learn more about the window they are looking at, they can use their QR code or Microsoft Tag reader on their phone to scan the affixed tag and it will bring them to the mobile web content about the product," DeSoto explains.

In addition to the selling tools incorporated into the new app and website, MI is also working on development of quoting and ordering tools for dealers to use with iPads and other mobile devices, Schutte reports.  "Our vision is that you wouldn't need to fire up a laptop." By giving iPads to its dealers at the launch event, MI wants to "remove any barriers" for dealers to begin taking advantage of these new tools, he concludes.
