MI Windows and Doors Volunteers with Local Food Pantry
Over 20 local team members from MI Windows and Doors recently donated time to the Northern Dauphin Food Pantry’s Fresh Express event. Serving over 150 families, and over 400 individuals, the event provided fresh produce including carrots, tomatoes, cabbage, potatoes, and more to pantry participants.
Suzy Blough, Coordinator of the Northern Dauphin Food Pantry, reached out to MIWD in early February about the possibility of partnering for the event. “The impact we can make on our area is really unlimited if we can gain the support of local businesses,” stated Blough. “MIWD is a great partner to have. Between man hours available from their team members and their willingness to lend a hand in other ways, MIWD can truly be an asset to our efforts.”
“Giving back to our community is such a great feeling,” said Ashley Masser, inside sales representative at MIWD. Masser, who also brought her children along for the volunteer event, added “We don’t always get to feel like we make a difference, but today we all did.”
2014 marks the first year of the Northern Dauphin Food Pantry’s participation in the Fresh Express Program, which aims to provide nutritious food, such as fresh produce and dairy products, to those in need. Since these products have a short shelf life, the Food Bank takes the perishable products directly to people in need.
